Stay around the Old Town
Most of the nightlife is within walking distance around Hlavné námestie, Laurinská, Obchodná and the streets near the river. You can move between places on foot all night.
Reserve ahead for bigger groups
Groups of 10 or more are often refused at the door on Friday and Saturday without a reservation. A booked table or a guided pub crawl solves this, because the venues know you are coming.
